All Souls’ Day November 2

Mass in Spanish: Monday, November 2, 7:00 pm
You must register for a ticket to attend Mass. Call Damaris at the Parish Office 317-546-4065 ext 340 or 317-443-1615. We will not have any Masses in English this year.
The church will be open all day for prayer on November 2, All Souls’ Day.

The month of November, especially All Souls’ Day, is a traditional time for visiting graves of loved ones, as is the anniversary of death.

A plenary indulgence is a complete release from the temporal punishment due for sins already forgiven (as far as their guilt is concerned.) Only one plenary indulgence may be obtained a day for oneself or a Holy Soul in Purgatory.

Conditions for a plenary indulgence:

  • One must be baptized and in a state of grace.
  • Free from attraction to all sin including venial sin.
  • Receive Sacrament of Reconciliation within 14 days before or after. A single confession may be used for multiple indulgences.
  • Receive Holy Communion each time an indulgence is sought.
  • Pray for the intentions of the Pope – preferably one Our Father and one Hail Mary.
  • Have a general intention to gain the indulgence.
  • Perform the indulgenced work (see below).

The following plenary indulgences are associated with All Souls’ Day:
Visit to a Church or Oratory on All Souls Day
A plenary indulgence, applicable only to the Souls in Purgatory, is granted to the faithful, who on the day dedicated to the Commemoration of all the faithful departed piously visit a church, a public oratory or -- for those entitled to use it -- a semipublic oratory. The above indulgence can be acquired either on the day designated above or, with the consent of the Ordinary, on the preceding or following Sunday or the feast of All Saints. The above indulgence is contained in the Apostolic Constitution The Doctrine of Indulgences, Norm 15, with account being taken of proposals made to the Sacred Penitentiary in the meantime. In visiting the church or oratory, it is required, according to Norm 16 of the same Apostolic Constitution, that "one Our Father and the Creed be recited."

Visit to a Cemetery
An indulgence, applicable only to the Souls in Purgatory, is granted to the faithful who devoutly visit a cemetery and pray, even if only mentally, for the departed. The indulgence is plenary each day from the 1st to the 8th of November; on other days of the year it is partial.

PRAY THE ROSARY

October is the month of the Holy Rosary

A PRAYER FOR PROTECTION IN TIME OF PANDEMIC

O Mary, you always brighten our path as a sign of salvation and of hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who, at the Cross, took part in Jesus’ pain while remaining steadfast in faith. O loving mother, you know what we need, and we are confident you will provide for us as at Cana in Galilee. Intercede for us with your Son Jesus, the Divine Physician, for those who have fallen ill, for those who are vulnerable, and for those who have died. Intercede also for those charged with protecting the health and safety of others and for those who are tending to the sick and seeking a cure. Help us, O Mother of Divine Love, to conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by Jesus, who took upon himself our sufferings and carried our sorrows, so as to lead us, through the Cross, to the glory of the Resurrection. Amen.

Under thy protection, we seek refuge, O Holy Mother of God. In our needs, despise not our petitions, but deliver us always from all dangers, O glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen.
Adapted from the prayer of Pope Francis

PRAYER TO CARE FOR OUR COMMON HOME

Father of all, Creator and ruler of the universe, You entrusted your world to us as a gift. Help us to care for it and all people, that we may live in a right relationship-- with You, with ourselves, with one another, and with creation.

Christ our Lord, both divine and human, You lived among us and died for our sins. Help us to imitate your love for the human family by recognizing that we are all connected— to our brothers and sisters around the world, to those in poverty impacted by environmental devastation, and to future generations.

Holy Spirit, giver of wisdom and love, You breathe life in us and guide us. Help us to live according to your vision, stirring to action the hearts of all—
individuals and families, communities of faith, and civil and political leaders.

Triune God, help us to hear the cry of those in poverty, and the cry of the earth, so that we may together care for our common home. Amen.

This prayer from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops is based on Pope Francis' Laudato Si': On Care for Our Common Home

Amen.
