Giving Tree for Teachers
Catholic Schools Week is a great time to celebrate Saint Lawrence Catholic School. Our faculty and staff are committed to carrying out the mission of the church and sharing the love of Jesus. Many people have asked how they can support the staff and students to accomplish their goals. Now you have a chance to contribute to the great work being done in the school.
In the narthex, there is a giving tree loaded with apples. Each apple contains 1 item from a teacher's wish list. You are invited to grab an apple and help out our teachers by purchasing the item. There will be a box located next to the tree for you to drop off your item. Please secure the apple on the item, so it can be delivered to the correct staff member. You may take as many apples as you would like. The tree will be available through the end of February. We thank you all for your continued support!
START A WILD GOOSE CHASE! Tuesday February 14, 2023 7:00pm The home of Joseph & Rosemary Valvo 7105 Mardyke Lane 317-546-7328
Legend states that some believers in the British Isles used the wild goose to symbolize the Holy Spirit instead of the traditional dove. Unlike the dove, which is calm and gentle, a wild goose will attack you and is in essence wild, untamed, and uncontrolled. In a similar fashion, the Holy Spirit is unpredictable – blowing to and fro like the wind (John 3:8) and coming in power (Acts 1:8), disturbing the status quo and setting the people into a new adventure with God. Come and learn more on February 14! This group will meet on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. www.wildgoosechase.org
SHARE YOUR HOLY MOMENTS!
We hope you are enjoying the Christmas gift book, Holy Moments by Matthew Kelly! The author writes, “There are no small acts. No act infused with goodness can ever be considered small. Every act of goodness triggers more goodness. Each act, however small, sets in place a chain reaction of Holy Moments.”
Will you share your Holy Moments with us? Just send an email and we will share your story in the bulletin. Send your Holy Moments to firstname.lastname@example.org You can include your name or choose to be anonymous. Here’s one to get you started.
“My Father died this past year. He was gifted in woodworking. From his possessions, I chose a beautiful handmade wooden box as a memento. I treasured that box and wanted to display it in my home. On the bottom of the box, my Father had imprinted his initials and the year 1947. My son had not seen the box but made an offhand comment that he wished he had something made by his Grandfather. Letting go of my own desire, I wrapped the box as a Christmas gift. When my son opened it, his eyes filled with tears. He rubbed the fine, smooth wood, and noted the inscription on the bottom. His smile was overwhelming as he choked out the words, ‘thank you.’ That was a Holy Moment!” (submitted by anonymous)

Resources Regarding the Return to Mass
The Archdiocese Office of Worship and Evangelization has created several videos featuring Archdiocesan speakers that highlight the privilege and joy of being able to celebrate the Eucharist together as the Body of Christ. Each of these very brief videos addresses a specific facet of what a gift and a privilege it is for us to attend Sunday Mass. Please enjoy these videos and share them with others:
For parishes. We pray that parishes, placing communion at the center, may increasingly become communities of faith, fraternity and welcome towards those most in need.
JANUARY IS THE MONTH OF THE HOLY FAMILY
The month of February is dedicated to the Holy Family. The special devotion which proposes the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph as the model of virtue of all Christian households began in the 17th century. It started almost simultaneously in Canada and France: the Association of the Holy Family was founded in Montreal in 1663, and by the Daughters of the Holy Family in Paris in 1674. This devotion soon spread and in 1893 Leo XIII expressed his approval of a feast under this title and himself composed part of the Office.
On account of the flight into Egypt, this feast has been observed by the Copts from early times. The feast was welcomed by succeeding Pontiffs as an efficacious means for bringing home to the Christian people the example of the Holy Family at Nazareth, and by the restoration of the true spirit of family life, stemming, in some measure, the evils of present-day society.
In the words of His Holiness Pope Leo XIII, "Nothing truly can be more salutary or efficacious for Christian families to meditate upon than the example of this Holy Family, which embraces the perfection and completeness of all domestic virtues."
A PRAYER FOR PROTECTION IN TIME OF PANDEMIC
O Mary, you always brighten our path as a sign of salvation and of hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who, at the Cross, took part in Jesus’ pain while remaining steadfast in the faith. O loving mother, you know what we need, and we are confident you will provide for us as at Cana in Galilee. Intercede for us with your Son Jesus, the Divine Physician, for those who have fallen ill, for those who are vulnerable, and for those who have died. Intercede also for those charged with protecting the health and safety of others and for those who are tending to the sick and seeking a cure. Help us, O Mother of Divine Love, to conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by Jesus, who took upon himself our sufferings and carried our sorrows, so as to lead us, through the Cross, to the glory of the Resurrection. Amen.
Under thy protection, we seek refuge, O Holy Mother of God. In our needs, despise not our petitions, but deliver us always from all dangers, O glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen. Adapted from the prayer of Pope Francis
PRAYER TO CARE FOR OUR COMMON HOME
Father of all, Creator and ruler of the universe, You entrusted your world to us as a gift. Help us to care for it and all people, so that we may live in a right relationship-- with You, with ourselves, with one another, and with creation. Christ our Lord, both divine and human, You lived among us and died for our sins. Help us to imitate your love for the human family by recognizing that we are all connected— to our brothers and sisters around the world, to those in poverty impacted by environmental devastation, and to future generations. Holy Spirit, the giver of wisdom and love, You breathe life in us and guide us. Help us to live according to your vision, stirring to action the hearts of all— individuals and families, communities of faith, and civil and political leaders. Triune God, help us to hear the cry of those in poverty, and the cry of the earth, so that we may together care for our common home. Amen.
This prayer from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops is based on Pope Francis' Laudato Si': On Care for Our Common Home
