EXTRA COLLECTION NEXT WEEKEND January 23/24 Church in Latin America
Next week, we will take up the Collection for the Church in Latin America. For many in Latin America and the Caribbean, a rising secular culture, difficult rural terrain, and a shortage of ministers all present obstacles to practicing the faith. Your support for the collection provides lay leadership training, catechesis, priestly and religious formation, and other programs to share our Catholic faith with those who long to hear the Good News of Christ. To learn more about how your gifts make a difference, visit www.usccb.org/latin-america Please place your donation in one of the offertory boxes in the narthex. Extra envelopes will be available.
WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY January 18-25, 2021
“Abide in my love… You shall bear much fruit.” (John 15:1-17)
The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity in 2021 was prepared by the Monastic Community of Grandchamp (www.grandchamp.org). The Community is located in Areuse, in the Canton of Neuchtal, Switzerland. The theme, taken from the 15th chapter of the Gospel of St. John, expresses Grandchamp Community’s vocation to prayer, reconciliation and unity in the Church and the human family.

JANUARY - THE MONTH OF THE HOLY NAME OF JESUS
POPE FRANCIS’ PRAYER INTENTION FOR JANUARY 2021
Human fraternity May the Lord give us the grace to live in full fellowship with our brothers and sisters of other religions, praying for one another, open to all.
POPE FRANCIS PROCLAIMS “YEAR OF ST JOSEPH”
Pope Francis has proclaimed a “Year of Saint Joseph” from December 8, 2020, until December 8, 2021. The special year marks the 150th Anniversary of the declaration of Saint Joseph as Patron of the Universal Church. The Holy Father encourages all to say a daily prayer to St. Joseph during this special year.
Making All Things New and Financial Contribution Letters
At the end of October, we completed the second full year of our three-year capital campaign “Making All Things New” (MATN). To date, we have received over $1.4 million of the $1.7 million pledged. Just prior to Thanksgiving we sent a mailing to each family summarizing all 2020 contributions received by Saint Lawrence including regular contributions and MATN. Your phone calls have caused us to look at reconciling some allocation differences between our Parish records and Faith Direct. Please note that the MATN contributions listed were just those received in 2020. We will be sending corrected letters and a full capital campaign pledge update after the first of the year. Thank you for your financial support of our Parish.
A PRAYER FOR PROTECTION IN TIME OF PANDEMIC
O Mary, you always brighten our path as a sign of salvation and of hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who, at the Cross, took part in Jesus’ pain while remaining steadfast in faith. O loving mother, you know what we need, and we are confident you will provide for us as at Cana in Galilee. Intercede for us with your Son Jesus, the Divine Physician, for those who have fallen ill, for those who are vulnerable, and for those who have died. Intercede also for those charged with protecting the health and safety of others and for those who are tending to the sick and seeking a cure. Help us, O Mother of Divine Love, to conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by Jesus, who took upon himself our sufferings and carried our sorrows, so as to lead us, through the Cross, to the glory of the Resurrection. Amen.
Under thy protection, we seek refuge, O Holy Mother of God. In our needs, despise not our petitions, but deliver us always from all dangers, O glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen.
Adapted from the prayer of Pope Francis
PRAYER TO CARE FOR OUR COMMON HOME
Father of all, Creator and ruler of the universe, You entrusted your world to us as a gift. Help us to care for it and all people, that we may live in a right relationship-- with You, with ourselves, with one another, and with creation.
Christ our Lord, both divine and human, You lived among us and died for our sins. Help us to imitate your love for the human family by recognizing that we are all connected— to our brothers and sisters around the world, to those in poverty impacted by environmental devastation, and to future generations.
Holy Spirit, the giver of wisdom and love, You breathe life in us and guide us. Help us to live according to your vision, stirring to action the hearts of all—
individuals and families, communities of faith, and civil and political leaders.
Triune God, help us to hear the cry of those in poverty, and the cry of the earth, so that we may together care for our common home. Amen.
This prayer from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops is based on Pope Francis' Laudato Si': On Care for Our Common Home
